Define which skin type you are according to the chart

If you are a mixture of two types, assume the fairer one.

Define the geographical location in which you will be sunbathing.

Note the maximum time you can sunbathe according to the chart. Times are given assuming you are using SPF 20. With no sun protection the allowed time would be 20 x smaller. The times in the right-hand column are for skin which is not acclimatised to the sun.

TYPE 1
Fair/red hair, light eyes, very fair skin, freckles, extremely sensitive, often burns, rarely goes brown.
Self exposure time:
3 - 10 minutes a day
TYPE 2
Blond hair, light eyes, fair skin, often freckles, rarely burns, tans easily.
Self exposure time:
10 - 20 minutes a day
TYPE 3
Brown hair, dark eyes, medium complexion light tan achieved easily but may burn.
Self exposure time:
20 - 30 minutes a day
TYPE 4
Dark brown or black hair, dark eyes, olive or dark complexion, tans easily.
Self exposure time:
45 minutes a day
